"And the Day He will call them," meaning: the polytheists, "and say, 'What answer did you give the messengers?'" He is questioning them; establishing proof against them, and He is more knowledgeable of that, and none questions the servants about their deeds except Allah alone.
﴿وَيَوْم يناديهم﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُشْرِكِينَ ﴿فَيَقُولُ مَاذَا أَجَبْتُمُ الْمُرْسلين﴾ يُسَتَفْهِمُهُمْ؛ يَحْتَجُّ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِذَلِكَ، وَلَا يَسْأَلُ الْعِبَادَ عَنْ أَعْمَالهم إِلَّا الله وَحده
