meaning: it caused them to lean.
His saying: "Do not exult"—do not behave insolently. "Indeed, Allah does not like the exultant"—meaning: the insolent; and they are the polytheists who do not (associate) Allah in what He has given them.
Muhammad said: Some joy has the meaning of: insolence and arrogance. The poet said:
(I am not exultant when time pleases me, nor despairing of its shifting turn.)
He says: I am not arrogant nor insolent; it is not from the joy whose meaning is gladness.
أَيْ: أَمَالَتْهَا.
قَوْلُهُ: ﴿لَا تَفْرَحْ﴾ لَا تَبْطَرْ ﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يحب الفرحين﴾ يَعْنِي: الْبَطِرِينَ؛ وَهُمُ الْمُشْرِكُونَ الَّذِينَ لَا (يشركُونَ) اللَّهَ فِيمَا أَعْطَاهُمْ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: مِنَ الْفَرَحِ مَا يَكُونُ مَعْنَاهُ: الأشر والبطر. قَالَ الشَّاعِر:
(وَلَيْسَت بِمِفْرَاحٍ إِذَا الدَّهْرُ سَرَّنِي … وَلَا جَازِعٌ مِنْ صَرْفِهِ الْمُتَحَوِّلِ)
يَقُولُ: لَسْتُ بِأَشِرٍ وَلَا بَطِرٍ؛ لَيْسَ هُوَ مِنَ الْفَرَحِ الَّذِي مَعْنَاهُ السرُور.
