"And he remained among them a thousand years less fifty years." Ka'b said: Noah remained among his people for a thousand years less fifty years, then he remained after the Flood for six hundred years. "So the Flood took them," up to His saying: "A sign for the worlds." The interpretation of this story has already passed in Surah Hud.
Muhammad said: The 'Tufan' (Flood) of anything is that which is abundant and destructive to the masses, such as a deluge that overwhelms a group, a great slaughter, or a sweeping death.
﴿فَلَبِثَ فِيهِمْ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلا خمسين عَاما﴾ قَالَ كَعْبٌ: لَبِثَ نُوحٌ فِي قَوْمِهِ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا، ثُمَّ لَبِثَ بَعْدَ الطُّوفَانِ سِتّمائَة سنة ﴿فَأَخذهُم الطوفان﴾ إِلَى قَوْله: ﴿آيَة للْعَالمين﴾ قَدْ مَضَى تَفْسِيرُ هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ فِي سُوْرَةِ هُودٍ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: وَالطُّوفَانُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَا كَانَ كَثِيرًا مُهْلِكًا لِلْجَمَاعَةِ؛ كَالْغَرَقِ الْمُشْتَمِلِ عَلَى جَمَاعَةٍ وَالْقَتْلِ الذَّرِيعِ وَالْمَوْت الجارف.
