Translation · EN

"(And when Our verses are recited to him, he turns away in arrogance)" meaning: rejecting them. "(as if he had not heard them)" meaning: he has indeed heard them with his ears, but his heart did not accept them, and the evidence was established against him through them. "(as if in his ears there is deafness)" meaning: a blockage.

﴿وَإِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا وَلَّى مستكبرا﴾ أَيْ: جَاحِدًا ﴿كَأَنْ لَمْ يَسْمَعْهَا﴾ أَيْ: قَدْ سَمِعَهَا بِأُذُنَيْهِ، وَلَمْ يَقْبَلْهَا قَلْبُهُ وَقَامَتْ عَلَيْهِ بِهَا الْحُجَّةُ. ﴿كَأَنَّ فِي أُذُنَيْهِ وَقْرًا﴾ صمما.
