Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 3 · Page 1408

Translation · EN

{And indeed, We will make what is upon it}—meaning what is upon the earth—{a barren dust}, concerning which Qatada said: The "juruz" (barren land) is that which contains neither trees nor vegetation.

Muhammad says: It is said: an "ard juruz" (barren land), and plural is "arazun ajraz". As for "as-sa'id" (the surface/dust) in the lexicon of the Arabs: it is the level ground.

Surah al-Kahf, from (verse 9 to verse 16).
