Allah says: 'There, the believers were tested,' meaning: they were tried. 'And they were shaken a severe shaking,' meaning: they were stirred by fear, and adversity afflicted them.
قَالَ اللَّهُ: ﴿هُنَالِكَ ابْتُلِيَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ﴾ أَيْ: اخْتُبِرُوا ﴿وَزُلْزِلُوا زِلْزَالا شَدِيدًا﴾ أَيْ: حُرِّكُوا بِالْخَوْفِ، وَأَصَابَتْهُمُ الْشِدَّةُ
