"[If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease and the alarmists in the city do not cease]", and they are the hypocrites who spread alarming news about the Prophet and his companions, saying: "Muhammad and his companions will perish!" "[We will surely urge you against them]", meaning: We will surely grant you power over them, "[then they will not remain your neighbors therein except for a little while]."
﴿لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ وَالْمُرْجِفُونَ فِي الْمَدِينَة﴾ وَهُمُ الْمُنَافِقُونَ يُرْجِفُونَ بِالنَّبِيِّ وَأَصْحَابِهِ يَقُولُونَ: يَهْلَكُ مُحَمَّدٌ وَأَصْحَابَهُ! ﴿لَنُغْرِيَنَّكَ بهم﴾ أَيْ: لَنَسُلِّطَنَّكَ عَلَيْهِمْ ﴿ثُمَّ لَا يجاورونك فِيهَا إِلَّا قَلِيلا﴾.
