[We offered the Trust] the verse. The interpretation of al-Kalbi is: He offered worship to the heavens, the earth, and the mountains so that they might take it with whatever is in it. Then, what is in it? It was said: If you do well, you will be rewarded, and if you do evil, you will be punished. [But they refused to undertake it], and He offered it to man, and man is Adam, so he accepted it.
Yahya, from Abu al-Ashhab, from al-Hasan, that he recited this verse: [We offered the Trust] up to His saying: (That Allah may punish the hypocrite men and the hypocrite women and the polytheists).
﴿إِنَّا عرضنَا الْأَمَانَة﴾ الْآيَةُ، تَفْسِيرُ الْكَلْبِيِّ عَرَضَ الْعِبَادَةَ عَلَى السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالْجِبَالِ أَنْ يأخذوها بِمَا فِيهَا، فَلَنْ: وَمَا فِيهَا؟ قِيلَ: إِنْ أَحْسَنْتُنَّ جوزيتن (ل ٢٧٥) وَإِنْ أَسَأَتُنَّ عُوْقِبْتُنَّ ﴿فَأَبَيْنَ أَنْ يحملنها﴾ وَعَرَضَهَا عَلَى الْإِنْسِانِ وَالْإِنْسَانُ: آدَمُ فَقَبِلَهَا.
يَحْيَى: عَنْ أَبِي الْأَشْهَبِ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ " أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: ﴿إِنَّا عَرَضْنَا الأَمَانَةَ﴾ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: (لِيُعَذِّبَ اللَّهُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَالْمُنَافِقَاتِ وَالْمُشْرِكين
