Translation · EN

"And thus We caused them to be discovered," meaning: We made the people of that time in which Allah revived them aware of them, "so that they might know that the promise of Allah is true and that the Hour—there is no doubt about it," meaning: there is no uncertainty regarding it, "when they disputed among themselves over their affair," meaning: their people; those people from whom they had fled had perished, and another nation had succeeded them, and they were upon Islam, then they differed concerning the Resurrection. Some of them said: 'People will be resurrected in their bodies,' and these believers were of them, and some of them said: 'The souls will be resurrected without bodies.' So Allah sent the Companions of the Cave (f. 193), and they perceived that they were the same nation they had fled from. [And he entered] the city—and it is a city in Rome known as Ephesus—and he brought out the silver coins to buy food with them, so the coins were considered strange, and he was seized and taken to the king of the city; and behold, the coins...

﴿وَكَذَلِكَ أعثرنا عَلَيْهِم﴾ أَيْ: أَطْلَعْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَهْلَ ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانِ الَّذِي أَحْيَاهُمُ اللَّهُ فِيهِ ﴿لِيَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَأَنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهَا﴾ لَا شَكَّ فِيهَا ﴿إِذْ يَتَنَازَعُونَ بَينهم أَمرهم﴾ يَعْنِي: قَوْمَهُمْ؛ كَانَتْ تِلْكَ الْأُمَّةُ الَّذِينَ هَرَبُوا مِنْهُمْ قَدْ بَادَتْ، وَخَلَفَتْ بَعْدَهُمْ أُمَّةٌ أُخْرَى، وَكَانُوا على الْإِسْلَام، ثمَّ إِنَّهُمُ اخْتَلَفُوا فِي الْبَعْثِ؛ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: يُبْعَثُ النَّاسُ فِي أَجْسَادِهِمْ وَهَؤُلَاءِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ كَانَ الْمُلْكُ مِنْهُمْ وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: تُبْعَثُ الْأَرْوَاحُ بِغَيْرِ أَجْسَادٍ؛ فَبَعَثَ اللَّهُ أَصْحَابِ الْكَهْفِ (ل ١٩٣) يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهَا تِلْكَ الْأُمَّةُ الَّذِينَ فَرُّوا مِنْهُمْ. [وَدَخَلَ] الْمَدِينَةَ وَهِيَ مَدِينَةٌ بِالرُّومِ يُقَالُ لَهَا: قَبْسُوسُ، وَأَخْرَجَ الدَّرَاهِمَ؛ لِيَشْتَرِيَ بِهَا الطَّعَامَ، فَاسْتُنْكِرَتِ الدَّرَاهِمُ، وَأُخِذَ فَذُهِبَ بِهِ إِلَى مَلِكِ الْمَدِينَةِ؛ فَإِذَا الدَّرَاهِمُ
