Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 3 · Page 18542

Translation · EN

"Wa uhita bi-thamarihi" (And his fruits were encompassed) by the night.

Muhammad said: The meaning of "uhita" is: destroyed. "Fa-asbaha" (So he became), on the following morning, "yuqallibu kaffayhi" (wringing his hands). Al-Hasan said: He means, he strikes one against the other in remorse "ala ma anfaqa fiha" (over what he had spent upon it) "wa hiya khawiyatun 'ala 'urushiha" (while it was ruined on its trellises).

Muhammad said: The meaning of "khawiyatun 'ala 'urushiha" is: ruined upon its roofs. The origin of this is that the roof falls down, and then the walls fall upon it. "Wa yaqulu" (And he says), in the Hereafter: "Ya laytani lam ushrik bi-rabbi ahadan" (Oh, would that I had not associated anyone with my Lord) in the world.
