"And We have placed between them"—meaning: their connection that existed in the world—"a barrier [mawbiqan]"—that is: a place of destruction; according to the exegesis of some of them.
Muhammad said: It is said, "Wabiqa al-rajulu yūbaqu wabaqan" (The man perished), and "Awbaqahu Allah" (Allah caused him to perish); meaning: He destroyed him.
﴿وَجَعَلنَا بَينهم﴾ يَعْنِي: وَصْلَهُمُ الَّذِي كَانَ فِي الدُّنْيَا ﴿موبقا﴾ أَيْ: مَهْلَكًا؛ فِي تَفْسِيرِ بَعْضِهِمْ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: يُقَالُ: وَبِقَ الرَّجُلُ يَوْبَقُ وَبَقًا، وَأَوْبَقَهُ اللَّهُ؛ أَيْ: أهلكه.
