"And indeed We have varied"—meaning: We have set forth—"in this Qur'an for mankind every kind of similitude."
Muhammad said: The meaning is: And indeed We have clarified for people every similitude they are in need of. "And man"—meaning: the disbeliever—"is ever more prone to argument than anything else."
﴿وَلَقَد صرفنَا﴾ أَيْ: ضَرَبْنَا ﴿فِي هَذَا الْقُرْآنِ للنَّاس من كل مثل﴾.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: الْمَعْنَى: وَلَقَدْ بَيَّنَّا لِلنَّاسِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثْلٍ يَحْتَاجُونَ إِلَيْهِ. ﴿وَكَانَ الْإِنْسَان﴾ يَعْنِي: الْكَافِرَ ﴿أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلا﴾.
