"Then they proceeded until, when they met a boy, he killed him. He said: Have you killed an innocent (zakiyyah) soul" meaning: one that has not sinned, "without a soul? Indeed, you have done something appalling."

﴿فَانْطَلَقَا حَتَّى إِذَا لَقِيَا غُلامًا فَقتله قَالَ أقتلت نفسا (زاكية﴾﴾ أَيْ: لَمْ تُذْنِبْ ﴿بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ لقد جِئْت شَيْئا نكرا﴾.
