"Then we desired that their Lord should replace him for them with one better than him in purity" (18:81), meaning: in piety, "and closer in affection" (18:81), meaning: in filial piety; according to the interpretation of al-Hasan.
Muhammad said: "Al-ruhm" in the language means affection and mercy.
﴿فَأَرَدْنَا أَنْ يُبْدِلَهُمَا رَبُّهُمَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ زَكَاة﴾ فِي التَّقْوَى ﴿وَأقرب رحما﴾ أَيْ: بِرًّا؛ فِي تَفْسِيرِ الْحَسَنِ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: الرُّحْمُ فِي اللُّغَةِ: الْعَطف وَالرَّحْمَة.
