"They said, 'O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are corrupters in the land,'" meaning: they are killers of people in the land, that is: the land of Islam. "'So may we assign for you an expenditure,'" meaning: a payment, "'upon condition that you make between us and them a barrier?'"
﴿قَالُوا يَا ذَا الْقَرْنَيْنِ إِنَّ يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ مُفْسِدُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ﴾ أَيْ: قَاتِلُونَ النَّاسَ فِي الْأَرْضِ؛ يَعْنِي: أَرْضَ الْإِسْلَامِ ﴿فَهَلْ نَجْعَلُ لَك خرجا﴾ أَيْ: جُعْلًا. ﴿عَلَى أَنْ تَجْعَلَ بَيْننَا وَبينهمْ سدا﴾
