"Your Lord is most knowing of what is in your souls" regarding the kindness to parents. "If you should be righteous [in your intentions], then indeed He is ever, to the oft-returning to Him, Forgiving." The awwab (oft-returning) is the one who turns back from his sin.
﴿رَبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِي نُفُوسِكُمْ﴾ مِنْ بِرِّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ ﴿إِنْ تَكُونُوا صَالِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ لِلأَوَّابِينَ غَفُورًا﴾ الأواب: الرَّاجِع عَن ذَنبه.
