Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 3 · Page 34080

Translation · EN

“And We shall inherit from him that which he says,” meaning: We shall inherit his wealth and his children that he spoke of, “and he will come to Us alone,” possessing nothing with him.

Yahya reported, from a companion of his, from al-A‘mash, from Abu al-Duha, from Masruq, from Khabbab ibn al-Aratt, who said: “I was a blacksmith during the Jahiliyyah, and I worked for al-‘As ibn Wa’il until I accumulated money owed to me by him. I came to him to claim my payment, and he said: ‘By Allah, I will not pay you until you disbelieve in Muhammad.’ I said: ‘By Allah, I will not disbelieve in Muhammad until you die and then are resurrected.’ He asked: ‘And am I to be resurrected?’ I said: ‘Yes.’ He replied: ‘Then I will have wealth and children there, and I will pay you.’ So I came to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and Allah revealed this verse up to His saying: ‘And he will come to Us alone.’”
