Translation · EN

"Indeed, the Hour is coming"—meaning: the Resurrection—"I almost conceal it." Qatadah said: It is in the recitation of Ubayy: "I almost conceal it from Myself." "That every soul may be recompensed for that which it strives"—meaning: the Hour is coming only so that every soul may be recompensed for that which it does.

﴿إِن السَّاعَة﴾ يَعْنِي: الْقِيَامَةَ ﴿آتِيَةٌ أَكَادُ أُخْفِيهَا﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: هِيَ فِي قِرَاءَةِ أُبَيِّ: (أَكَادُ أُخْفِيهَا مِنْ نَفْسِي) ﴿لِتُجْزَى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا تَسْعَى﴾ يَقُولُ: إِنَّمَا تَجِيءُ السَّاعَةُ لِتُجْزَى كل نفس بِمَا تعْمل.
