He took the glowing coal and put it in his mouth, and from that was [that] knot in his tongue.
Muhammad says: He means by 'the knot': a speech impediment (rutah).
عَلَيْهِ، فَتَنَاوَلَ الْجَمْرَةَ فَأَلْقَاهَا فِي فِيهِ، فَمِنْهَا كَانَتْ [تِلْكَ] الْعُقْدَةُ فِي لِسَانِهِ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: يَعْنِي بالعقدة: رتة.
