and his heart. When his soul exits, every angel between the heavens and the earth, and every angel in the heavens, curses him. The gates of the heavens are closed against him; every gate refuses to let his soul ascend through it. The angel reaches his Lord and says: O Lord, this is the soul of Your servant so-and-so; neither the earth nor the heaven accepts it. So Allah and His angels curse him and say: Return My servant, and show him what I have prepared for him of humiliation; for I have covenanted to My servants: From it We created you, and into it We will return you. His soul is returned to him when he is placed in his grave, and he indeed hears the sound of your sandals as you depart from him. It is said to him: What is your religion? Who is your Lord? And who is your Prophet? He says: Allah is my Lord, Islam is my religion, and Muhammad is my Prophet. They will chide him severely, then it is said to him: What is your religion? Who is your Lord? And who is your Prophet? He says: I do not know. It is said to him: You neither knew nor followed. His deeds come to him in an ugly form and with a foul odor, and say: Receive glad tidings of everlasting punishment. He says: And may Allah give you glad tidings of evil; for one with a face like yours brings glad tidings of evil. Who are you? It says: I am your wicked deeds. Then a door is opened for him from the doors of Paradise, and it is said to him: This would have been your abode had you obeyed Allah. Then his abode in the Fire is opened for him, and he looks at what Allah has prepared for him of humiliation. Then a deaf and blind person is appointed over him, holding a mace; if it were placed upon a mountain, it would turn it into dust. He strikes him with a blow that turns him into dust, then he is restored, and he strikes him a blow between his eyes, from which he lets out a cry heard by everything on earth except for the two weights (mankind and jinn). Then a caller calls out: Spread out for him two sheets of fire, and so they are spread out.
