to him by the Prophet, peace be upon him, "and a specified term." In this there is a transposition (taqdim and ta'khir): "And were it not for a word that preceded from your Lord and a specified term, it would have been binding."
بِهِ النَّبِي عليه السلام ﴿وَأجل مُسَمّى﴾ فِيهَا تَقْدِيمٌ وَتَأْخِيرٌ: وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِنْ رَبِّكَ وَأَجَلٌ مُسَمَّى لَكَانَ لزاما.
