'Nay, they said, "[It is] a medley of dreams,"' meaning: mixtures of dreams; they mean: the Quran. '"Nay, he has invented it,"' they mean: Muhammad. '"Nay, he is a poet, so let him bring us a sign as the former [messengers] were sent [with],"' as Moses and Jesus came; according to what Muhammad claims.
Surah Al-Anbiya from (verse 6 to verse 10).
﴿بل قَالُوا أضغاث أَحْلَام﴾ أَيْ: أَخْلَاطُ أَحْلَامٍ؛ يَعْنُونَ: الْقُرْآنَ ﴿بل افتراه﴾ يَعْنُونَ: مُحَمَّدًا ﴿بَلْ هُوَ شَاعِرٌ فَلْيَأْتِنَا بِآيَةٍ كَمَا أُرْسِلَ الأَوَّلُونَ﴾ كَمَا جَاءَ مُوسَى وَعِيسَى؛ فِيمَا يزْعم مُحَمَّد.
