"And they say, 'When we are bones and crumbled remains'"—meaning: dust—"'are we indeed to be resurrected as a new creation?'" presented as an interrogation, meaning: we shall not be resurrected.
Muhammad said: The root of al-rufat is that which has crumbled; meaning: fragmented.
Surah al-Isra from (verse 50 to verse 55).
﴿وَقَالُوا أَئِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا وَرُفَاتًا﴾ أَي: تُرَابا ﴿أئنا لمبعوثون خلقا جَدِيدا﴾ عَلَى الِاسْتِفْهَامِ؛ أَيْ: لَا نُبْعَثُ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: أَصْلُ (الرُّفَاتِ): مَا ترفت؛ أَي: تفتت.
سُورَة الْإِسْرَاء من (آيَة ٥٠ آيَة ٥٥).
