Volume 3 · Page 601111

Translation · EN

"And I do not know, perhaps it is a trial for you" (Al-Anbiya: 111). Regarding the interpretation of Al-Hasan, he says: And I do not know, perhaps that which you are in—of ease and prosperity—is transitory and vanishing. "A trial" (fitnah), meaning: a tribulation for you. "And enjoyment" (mata'), meaning: you take pleasure in it; he means: the polytheists. "For a time" (ila hin). Qatadah said: It means: until death.

Muhammad said: The meaning of "وَإِنْ أَدْرِي" is: And I do not know.
