"[He who thinks that Allah will not help him in this world and the Hereafter]," meaning: the hypocrite; that is, he despaired that Allah would help Muhammad, and he does not believe in what Allah promised His Messenger of victory in this world and the Hereafter. His victory in the Hereafter is Paradise. "[Then let him extend a rope]"—meaning: a cord—"[to the sky]"—he says: let him attach a rope to the sky, meaning the ceiling of the house, then let him sever it so that he may strangle himself until he dies. "[Then let him see if his effort]"—meaning: his action—"[will remove that which enrages him]," meaning: that this will not remove his rage.
Surah Al-Hajj (Verse 16 - Verse 18)
