"And for every nation," (meaning: for every people), "We have appointed a rite of sacrifice." Qatada said: This means a pilgrimage and a slaughter. "And give good tidings to the humble," meaning: the submissive and reverent ones.
Muhammad (Ibn Abi Zamanin) said: The derivation of this word is from "al-khabt," which is the low-lying place of the earth.
﴿وَلكُل أمة﴾ (وَلكُل قوم) ﴿جعلنَا منسكا﴾ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: يَعْنِي: حَجًا وَذَبْحًا. ﴿وَبشر المخبتين﴾ يَعْنِي: الْخَاشِعِينَ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: وَاشْتِقَاقُ الْكَلِمَةِ مِنْ: الْخَبْتِ؛ وَهُوَ الْمَكَانُ المنخفض من الأَرْض.
