Muhammad said: Regarding His saying, "And nothing has prevented Us from sending the signs, except that the former peoples denied them," the first 'an' is in the accusative case (nasb), and the second 'an' is in the nominative case (raf'); the meaning is: Nothing prevented Us from sending them except the denial of the former peoples. "And We gave Thamud the she-camel, clearly," meaning: as a clear proof, "but they wronged her," meaning: they wronged themselves by hampering her. "And We do not send the signs except to warn," He warns them with the sign, informing them that if they do not believe, He will punish them.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: قَوْلُهُ: ﴿وَمَا مَنَعَنَا أَنْ نُرْسِلَ بِالآيَاتِ إِلا أَنْ كذب بهَا الْأَولونَ﴾ (أَن) الأولى نصب و (أَن) الثَّانِيَةُ رَفْعٌ؛ الْمَعْنَى: مَا مَنَعَنَا الْإِرْسَالَ إِلَّا تَكْذِيبُ الْأَوَّلِينَ. ﴿وَآتَيْنَا ثَمُود النَّاقة مبصرة﴾ أَي: بَيِّنَة ﴿فظلموا بهَا﴾ أَيْ: ظَلَمُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ بِعَقْرِهَا ﴿وَمَا نرسل بِالْآيَاتِ إِلَّا تخويفا﴾ يُخَوِّفُهُمْ بِالْآيَةِ؛ فَيُخْبِرُهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذَا لم يُؤمنُوا عذبهم
