"Repel, by that which is better, the evil." The explanation of al-Suddi: He says: Repel ugly speech with pardon and forgiveness; and that was before he was commanded to fight them.
﴿ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ السَّيِّئَةَ﴾ تَفْسِيرُ السُّدِّيِّ: يَقُولُ: ادْفَعْ بِالْعَفْوِ وَالصَّفْحِ الْقَوْلَ الْقَبِيحَ؛ وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَن يُؤمر بقتالهم.
