"And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they attend me," so that I might obey the devil and perish. Allah commanded him to supplicate with this.
Muhammad said: It has been said regarding "the promptings of the devils": it is their nudging and stabbing with whisperings until one is distracted from the command of Allah. The reading of "Rabbi" (My Lord) is with a kasra on the ba' [and the omission of the ya']; it was omitted.
﴿وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ﴾ فَأُطِيعُ الشَّيْطَانَ فَأَهْلِكُ؛ أَمَرَهُ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ بَهَذَا.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: وَقيل: (همزات الشَّيَاطِين): نَخْسُهَا وَطَعْنُهَا بِالْوَسْوَسَةِ؛ حَتَّى تُشْغَلَ عَنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ. وَالْقِرَاءَةُ (رَبِّ) بِكَسْرِ الْبَاءِ [وَحَذْفِ الْيَاءِ]؛ حُذِفَتِ
