Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 3 · Page 76899

Translation · EN

"Until, when death comes to one of them, he says: 'My Lord, send me back'" (Quran 23:99). Al-Hasan said: There is no one among the creation of Allah who is not a friend of Allah except that he asks to return to the worldly life at the moment of death, speaking with words that he utters, even if he were a mute who had never spoken a single letter in the worldly life. This is because when it becomes clear to him that he is among the people of the Fire, he asks for the return, but those who are next to him do not hear him.
