"And let not"—meaning, and let not swear—"those of virtue among you and wealth"—meaning, affluence—"to give to the relatives"—the verse. Regarding the interpretation of Qatadah: He said: "It was revealed concerning Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Mistah. There was a kinship between him and Abu Bakr, and he was an orphan under his guardianship. He was among those who spread what was spread regarding Aisha. So, when Allah revealed her innocence and her excuse, Abu Bakr swore that he would never provide him any benefit. Then Allah revealed this verse. It was mentioned to us that the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) called Abu Bakr and recited it to him, then said: 'Do you not love for Allah to forgive you?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then forgive.'"
