Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 3 · Page 863

Translation · EN

"Let those who dissent from His command beware," meaning the command of Allah, referring to the hypocrites, "lest a trial befall them," meaning a calamity, "or a painful punishment befall them," meaning that Allah brings out what is in their hearts of hypocrisy until they manifest it as shirk (polytheism); then He strikes them with killing because of that.
