"And 'Ad and Thamud," meaning: And We destroyed 'Ad and Thamud. "And the companions of the Rass," Mujahid said: The Rass is a well upon which there were people.
Yahya said: It reached me that the one sent to them was Shu'ayb, and that he was sent to the people of Madyan and to the people of the Rass altogether.
﴿وعادا وثمودا﴾ أَي: وأهلكنا عادا وثمودا ﴿وَأَصْحَاب الرس﴾ قَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ: الرَّسُّ بِئْرٌ كَانَ عَلَيْهَا نَاسٌ.
قَالَ يَحْيَى: وَبَلَغَنِي أَنَّ الَّذِي أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ [وَأَنَّهُ] أُرْسِلَ إِلَى أَهْلِ مَدْيَنَ، وَإِلَى [أهل] الرُّسُل جَمِيعًا.
