Translation · EN

"Have you not considered your Lord, how He extended the shadow?" He extended it from the break of dawn until the rising of the sun. "And if He had willed, He could have made it motionless," meaning: permanent, never receding. "Then We made the sun for it," meaning: for the shadow, "an indication," meaning: it follows it and pursues it until it consumes all of it.

﴿أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى رَبِّكَ كَيْفَ مد الظل﴾ مَدَّهُ مِنْ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ إِلَى طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ ﴿وَلَوْ شَاءَ لَجَعَلَهُ سَاكِنا﴾ أَيْ: دَائِمًا لَا يَزُولُ ﴿ثُمَّ جعلنَا الشَّمْس عَلَيْهِ﴾ أَي: على الظل ﴿دَلِيلا﴾ أَيْ: تَتَلُوهُ وَتَتْبَعُهُ حَتَّى تَأْتِي عَلَيْهِ [كُله]
