"And those who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor niggardly" [Qur'an 25:67]. Qatada's interpretation: Extravagance [al-israf] is spending in disobedience to Allah, and niggardliness [al-iqtar] is withholding what is due to Allah. "But there is ever, between that, a just moderation" [Qur'an 25:67]. This is a man's spending on his family.
Surah al-Furqan from (verse 68 to verse 71).
﴿وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا أَنْفَقُوا لَمْ يُسْرِفُوا وَلم يقترُوا﴾ تَفْسِيرُ قَتَادَةَ: الْإِسْرَافُ: النَّفَقَةُ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ، والإِقْتَارُ: الْإِمْسَاكُ عَنْ حَقِّ اللَّهِ. ﴿وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قواما﴾ وَهِذِهِ نَفَقَةُ الرَّجُلِ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ.
