And likewise, fathers are raised for their children if the fathers are lower than the children in deeds.
His saying: {And We did not deprive them} means: We did not decrease them {of their deeds of anything. Every person} meaning: the people of the Fire {for what he earned} of deeds {is held in pledge}.
وَكَذَلِكَ الْآبَاء يُرفَعُون للأبناء؛ إِذا كَانَت الْآبَاء دون الْأَبْنَاء فِي الْعَمَل.
قَوْله: ﴿وَمَا ألتناهم﴾ أَي: وَمَا نقصناهم ﴿مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَيْءٍ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ﴾ يَعْنِي: أهل النَّار ﴿بِمَا كَسَبَ﴾ من عمل ﴿رَهِينٌ﴾.
