He said: {And indeed, for those who have wronged}, meaning: those who have committed shirk, {is a punishment before that} by the sword; he means: those who were destroyed on the day of Badr, according to the interpretation of al-Hasan. {But most of them}, meaning: the majority of them, {do not know}, meaning: those who do not believe in it.
قَالَ: ﴿وَإِن للَّذين ظلمُوا﴾ أشركوا ﴿عذَابا دون ذَلِك﴾ بِالسَّيْفِ؛ يَعْنِي: من أُهلك يَوْم بدر؛ فِي تَفْسِير الْحسن ﴿وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرهم﴾ أَي: جَمَاعَتهمْ ﴿لَا يعلمُونَ﴾ يَعْنِي: من لَا يُؤمن بِهِ.
