"At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary." Ibn Abbas said: I asked Ka'b about the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, and he said: 'It is the boundary to which the souls of the believers ascend when they die; no soul of a believer passes beyond it. When a believer is taken, the near angels of the heavens follow him until he is brought to the Lote Tree and placed there. Then, the near angels line up and pray over him, just as you pray over your dead here. That is the meaning of His statement: "The Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary."'
