"Indeed, We sent against them a storm of stones [hasiban]," meaning the stones with which those among them who were outside the city and the travelers among them were pelted, while their city was struck by the swallowing [al-khasf]. "Except for the family of Lot," meaning those who believed, "We saved them."
﴿إِنَّا أرسلنَا عَلَيْهِم حاصبا﴾ يَعْنِي: الْحِجَارَةَ الَّتِي رُمِيَ بِهَا من كَانَ مِنْهُم خَارِجا من الْمَدِينَة وَأهل السّفر مِنْهُم، وَأصَاب مدينتهم الخسفُ ﴿إِلا آلَ لُوطٍ﴾ يَعْنِي من آمن ﴿نَّجَّيْنَاهُم﴾
