His statement: "So I swear" (fala uqsimu), meaning: I swear, and the "la" is extraneous (za'idah). "By the settings of the stars" (bi-mawaqi' al-nujum), meaning: the stars of the Qur'an, as Gabriel descended with it upon the Prophet.
