Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 4 · Page 137916

Translation · EN

"Has the time not yet come for those who have believed that their hearts should feel khushu' (humility/fear) at the remembrance of Allah?" Khushu' means fear. "And what has been revealed of the truth," meaning: the Quran. Muhammad said: He says: "An" (the time has come) for a thing when it has arrived. "And that they should not be like those who were given the Scripture before," meaning: the Jews. "And the time became long for them," meaning their remaining in the world, "so their hearts hardened," meaning they became callous. "And many of them are defiantly disobedient," meaning: those among them who persisted in polytheism. Some interpret it as having been revealed regarding the hypocrites, commanding them to make their faith sincere, just as the believers have made theirs sincere. And His saying: "For those who have believed," means: those who have affirmed [it] with their tongues.
