[{Whatever Allah restored to His Messenger}] to His saying: [{and the wayfarer}]. The Tafsir of Qatada: When this verse was revealed, the fay' (spoils of war taken without fighting) was [distributed] among these [groups]. But when the verse in Surat al-Anfal was revealed: [{And know that anything you capture, then one-fifth of it is for Allah and for the Messenger}], it abrogated the first verse. Consequently, the fifth was assigned to those for whom the fay' had been intended, and what remained of the spoils became for those who fought.
