Tafsir al-Qur'an al-'Aziz by Ibn Abi Zamanin
Volume 4 · Page 14241

Translation · EN

"So when they had both submitted"—he means Ibrahim and Ismail. He means: Ibrahim submitted willingly to Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, to sacrifice his son, his firstborn and only child; and it is thus in the Torah: "Offer Me" your firstborn and only child. And Ismail submitted himself to Allah; meaning, they both surrendered to the command of Allah. Ibrahim was content with sacrificing his son, and his son was content with his father sacrificing him. "And he laid him down on his forehead" (fol. 289)—meaning: he laid him on his side to sacrifice him. He took the blade while wearing a white shirt. He said: "O my father, I have no garment in which to be shrouded [other than this], so take it off me so that you may shroud me in it." ["And he laid him down on his forehead" means: he laid him down on his side upon the ground].
