'Indeed, this is the manifest trial.' [Meaning: The matter with which I tested you—that you sacrifice your firstborn and only son for My sake—is great.] It means: It is a clear blessing upon you from Allah, for you did not have to sacrifice your son.
Muhammad said: '(And We called to him)'—some scholars have mentioned that this is the response to His saying: 'And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead,' and the 'waw' (and) is extraneous. And Allah knows best.
﴿إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ الْبَلاءُ الْمُبِينُ﴾ [يُرِيد الَّذِي ابتليتك بِهِ عَظِيم أَن تذبح لي بكرك وواحدك] يَعْنِي: النِّعْمَة البيِّنة عَلَيْك من اللَّه؛ إِذْ لم تذبح ابْنك.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد (وناديناه) ذكر بعض الْعلمَاء أَنَّهُ جَوَاب ﴿فَلَمَّا أسلما وتله للجبين﴾ وَالْوَاو زَائِدَة. وَالله أعلم.
