His saying: "And statues [tamathil]" means: images made of copper.
Al-Hasan said: Images were not forbidden in those days. "And basins like reservoirs [ka-l-jawabi]" means: large plates like troughs.
Muhammad said: "Al-Jawabi" is the plural of "jabiya."
"And anchored cooking pots [qudur rasiyat]" means: they were fixed in the ground, massive, and not moved from their places. "Work, O family of David, in gratitude [shukran]" means: in affirmation of God's oneness [tawhid]. Some said: When this was revealed, there was always one of them standing in prayer.
He said: "And few of My servants are grateful" means: the fewest of people are the ones who are grateful.
قَوْله: ﴿وتماثيل﴾ يَعْنِي: صورًا من نُحَاس.
قَالَ الْحَسَن: ولمْ تكن الصُّور يومئذٍ محرَّمة ﴿وَجِفَانٍ كَالْجَوَابِي﴾ يَعْنِي: صحافًا كالحياض.
قَالَ محمدٌ: الجوابي جمع: جابية.
﴿وقدور راسيات﴾ أَي: ثابتاتٌ فِي الأَرْض عِظَام لَا تحوَّل عَن أماكنها ﴿اعْمَلُوا آل دَاوُد شكرا﴾ أَي: توحيدًا. قَالَ بَعضهم: لما نزلت لم يزل إنسانٌ مِنْهُم قَائِما يُصَلِّي.
قَالَ: ﴿وَقَلِيلٌ مِنْ عبَادي الشكُور﴾ أَي: أقل النَّاس الْمُؤمن
