"And there is none among us but has a known position" (37:164)—meaning: from the time they were created until the first blast of the Trumpet, they glorify Allah, proclaim His oneness, praise Him, and prostrate to Him. They do not know of any who can match their worship. The angels said: "And there is none among us but has a known position," meaning: except that he has a place in which he worships Allah. This is the statement of the angels; meaning: they declare Allah free of imperfection, inasmuch as they [the polytheists] attributed a lineage between Him and the jinn.
