"That We requited them for what they disbelieved, and do We requite"—meaning, do We punish—"except the ungrateful?"
Muhammad said: It has been said that the meaning of 'requital' (al-mujazah) here is that He does not forgive him, for forgiveness is reserved for the people of faith.
Surah Saba, verses 18 to 19.
﴿ذَلِكَ جَزَيْنَاهُمْ بِمَا كَفَرُوا وَهَلْ نجازي﴾ أَي نعاقب ﴿إِلَّا الكفور﴾.
قَالَ محمدٌ: قِيلَ معنى المجازاة هَا هُنَا: أَنَّهُ لَا يغْفر لَهُ، وَإِنَّمَا الْمَغْفِرَة لأهل الْإِيمَان.
