"And when Allah is mentioned alone, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink (ishtama'at), and when those other than Him are mentioned"—that is: those whom they worship besides Him, meaning the idols—"behold, they rejoice."
﴿وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ اشْمَأَزَّتْ﴾ انقبضت ﴿قُلُوبُ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالآخِرَةِ وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ دونه﴾ أَي: الَّذين يعْبدُونَ من دونه؛ يَعْنِي: الْأَوْثَان ﴿إِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ﴾.
