"To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth"—meaning: the locks (mafatih).
Muhammad said: The singular of the word 'maqalid' (keys) is 'iqlid.'
﴿لَهُ مقاليد السَّمَاوَات وَالْأَرْض﴾ يَعْنِي: مَفَاتِيح.
قَالَ محمدٌ: وَاحِد المقاليد: إقليد.
