"And the Horn will be blown," and the Horn is a trumpet into which the blower of the Horn blows, "and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead," meaning: will die. This is the first blast. "Except whom Allah wills." Al-Hasan interprets this as: He excepted groups of the people of heaven who die between the two blasts.
Yahya said: And it reached me that the last of them to remain will be Gabriel, Michael, Israfil, and the Angel of Death. Then Gabriel, Michael, and Israfil will die, then Allah will say to the Angel of Death: "Die," so he will die.
﴿وَنفخ فِي الصُّور﴾ وَالصُّورِ قَرْنٌ يَنْفُخُ فِيهِ صَاحِبُ الصُّور ﴿فَصعِقَ﴾ أَي: فَمَاتَ ﴿مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَنْ فِي الأَرْض﴾ وَهَذِه النَّفْخة الأولى ﴿إِلا مَنْ شَاءَ الله﴾ تَفْسِير الْحَسَن: اسْتثْنى طوائف من أهل السَّمَاء يموتون بَين النفختين.
قَالَ يحيى: وَبَلغنِي أَن آخر من يبْقى مِنْهُم جِبْرِيل وَمِيكَائِيل وإسرافيل وَملك الْمَوْت , ثمَّ يَمُوت جِبْرِيل وَمِيكَائِيل وإسرافيل , ثمَّ يَقُولُ اللَّه لملك الْمَوْت: مُتْ فَيَمُوت.
